Blackwell's bookshop

Blackwell’s bookshop (Broad St) is a cherished local landmark whose 135-year-old literary heritage includes connections with C.S. Lewis, Sir John Betjeman, J.R.R. Tolkien, among others.

Located at 50 Broad Street, very close to many other interesting places to see as well, Blackwell’s offers one of the very best selections of books in the country, plus music, magazines, a specialist floor dedicated to rare and antiquarian books, and much more, including its coffee shop, popular with locals and students alike.

Benjamin Blackwell first opened Blackwell’s in January of 1879; it was a very small space originally, and has expanded ever since. Today, it is considered the leading academic bookseller in England and also has outlets in Scotland and Wales.

Blackwell’s is a wonderfully unique bookshop, where its expert, knowledgeable staff await those who also love books and enjoy browsing through its many miles of shelves. Blackwell’s also has a busy schedule of author talks, plays, events and book launches throughout the year.
