Two of the most well-known punt stations in the city centre area are the Magdalen Bridge punt station, and, a bit further north, the Cherwell Boathouse, which includes its renowned restaurant.
Many visitors to the City pick up their punt from Magdalen Bridge. Here you can take in the breath taking views of Magdalen College, including its deer park, or follow the river through Christ Church Meadows and on towards the river Isis, a stretch of the Thames popular with canal boats and Oxford University’s rowing teams.
For a more peaceful route through University Parks, the Cherwell Boathouse is located just north of the city centre, on the banks of the river Cherwell. A major punt station in the city, as well as the home of a highly regarded, fine dining restaurant with an award-winning wine list, it is a peaceful, idyllic setting for a respite from travelling or from the busier tourist areas in the city centre.
For those feeling adventurous, you can follow the river Cherwell half a mile towards Old Marston and stop at another well-known Oxford pub, the Victoria Arms. Set in one of Oxford’s oldest villages this pretty pub serves traditional food which can be enjoyed in the sweeping gardens leading down to the river’s edge.
If you would like to stay close to the centre of Oxford, we have a number of apartments including a modern one bed apartment overlooking St George’s Tower and the Mound. And a one bed apartment or two bed duplex penthouse, with a private terrace, in the heart of the Oxford Castle Quarter.
